About

Candy Box 2 is a text-based incremental game that starts with a simple candy counter and expands into a vast, bizarre adventure. You collect candies, spend them on upgrades and equipment, and venture into a world rendered entirely in ASCII art and witty text. New areas, items, and mechanics continuously unlock in ways you cannot predict.

The game's charm is its sense of discovery. Every few minutes something surprising happens — a new shop opens, a magical item appears, a dungeon is revealed. The incremental mechanics are satisfying but they're a vehicle for exploration rather than the end goal. There's a whole world here, hiding behind the candy counter.

Candy Box 2 is best played over multiple sessions, letting it run in a background tab and checking in periodically. Its humor, creativity, and continual surprises make it a genuine cult classic of browser gaming.

How to Play

  • Let candies accumulate automatically, then click to eat or save them.
  • Buy the lollipop farm early to increase candy production.
  • Explore the map as it expands — new areas unlock as you progress.
  • Equip weapons and armor before entering dungeons.
  • Complete quests and defeat bosses to unlock major progression milestones.

Tips

  • Save candies for upgrades rather than eating them all immediately.
  • The merchant sells crucial items — check his stock regularly as it changes.
  • Some secrets are only revealed through specific actions — experiment freely.

History

Candy Box was created by French developer "aniwey" (Gabriel Achigar) and released in 2013. Its sequel, Candy Box 2, followed later that year with dramatically expanded scope and a full world to explore. Both games were built in HTML/CSS/JavaScript and released for free. They became landmark examples of how text and ASCII art could create rich, surprising gameplay experiences. The originals helped define the "idle game with depth" subgenre.
