How to Play

• Click the large cookie on the left to generate your first cookies.
• Spend cookies on buildings (cursor, grandmas, farms, etc.) in the right panel.
• Buy upgrades when they appear to multiply your cookies-per-second.
• Click golden cookies when they appear for large temporary bonuses.
• Unlock achievements and ascend (prestige) for permanent multiplier bonuses.

Tips

• Buy the most expensive upgrade you can afford — it's usually the best bang for your cookies.
• Never miss a golden cookie click; the Frenzy multiplier is enormous.
• Ascension (resetting with prestige bonuses) is necessary for true late-game progress.

History

Cookie Clicker was created by Julien "Orteil" Thiennot and released in August 2013. It was one of the first games to be called an "idle game" or "clicker," though it drew on earlier incremental games like Candy Box. It went viral overnight, crashing its host server. The game has been continuously updated for over a decade and was released on Steam in 2021. It is widely credited as the founding document of an entire game genre.
